orange twigs from jupiter

If you, like we do, are blessed with wee ones, under the age of 10, then you will probably recognise the title of this blog right away.... if you do not, then read on as all shall be revealed....

First, a heads up to this campaign (oh no, another campaign i hear the cry!!!)

Stay Up Late is the campaign headed up by a band named Heavy Load that were featured in a documentary on BBC4 tonight, Storyville

Yes I know, BBC c***ts I called them, and still have not forgiven them for their bullshit of late, but it was stumbled upon whilst flicking around the channels trying to avoid the shite that was on the Grammys on ITV4 (only tuned in to that to see U2 and Radiohead).......

I digress - anyhow, this band just has to be checked out, they are made of of some very interesting characters, and it was pure magic mixed with heart string pulling moments of angst and 'raised expectations' shall we say. I think though, despite everything, maybe because of everything, they are going to pull it off... whatever 'it' is. Check them out, trust me.

Also earlier I had to tune in to the Panorama from Gaza with Jeremy Bowen - of which I am still processing, and wondering about, not managed to formulate a response yet, other than, something from the BBC is surely better than nothing..... isnt it? What about if that something is still loaded and on the side of somehow disturbingly and cruelly making excuses that what Israel has just done there can actually be deemed to have been just......... and not war crimes

Anyway, back to the plot..... orange twigs from jupiter



are, of course, carrots, as charlie so wonderfully disguises them, under the guise of something wonderful from another planet, to his sister, in the brilliant Charlie and Lola childrens books, written by the very talented Lauren Child.
In this world, Charlie does it of course, not out of malice in any way, but he merely re-names food that his little sister just simply will not eat, or even contemplate eating.... he does it because he knows that eating carrots is good for you / her.
He wants her to eat carrots for this reason, and tricks her into thinking they are something totally different, exciting, other-wordly..... but he does this for her own good.

Now, is this wrong - she is prejudiced against carrots, and nothing will make her eat them if all they ever are to her is evil orange things that are pulled out the ground. Its not only carrots he re-names, but I think you get the picture - that sometimes we must dress things up differently to get them across to other people, to get their attention, to get them to consume, what we know, is ulitmately good for them.......
Or, of course we could just take the approach of trying to ram the carrot down their throat, so to speak, telling them to take it or leave it.
I dislike this approach as it definately shows a lack of due care to the carrot-haters.......

So, today, and tomorrow I am in the business of promoting Orange Twigs From Jupiter...... care to try them? I am told they can miraculously help you see in the dark........
